One Minute Book Review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

One Minute Book Review- Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

The Summary:

When Sophie is turned into an old woman by the Witch of the Waste she decides she’s off to fine her fortune. Who knew she could find that inside the terrifying Wizard Howl’s castle.

What I liked:

So I’ve seen the movie but I heard that the book needed to be read if you’d seen the movie, and now I see why. I love Miyazaki, but he left out some important stuff that happens in the book, that really helped the entire story make sense. And he also added some stuff to tell the story he wanted to tell. But this was a solid story, well written, and great for kids. It wrapped up a little fast, but again, we’re dealing with a children’s book, so I thought it was fine.

What I didn’t like:

Sometimes the story seemed to lag. But I attribute that to me rather than the story. It was a children’s story, and I think I was looking for something that may not have been a natural part of a children’s story.

Verdict:

I would recommend this if you’ve seen the movie. And I would definitely recommend this for any child. Adults, just remember this is a children’s story, and I think you will enjoy it a lot more.
